Beaches & Water

The Copenhageners are lucky enough to be surrounded by clean water very suitable for bathing and kilometres of beach sand. There is ample opportunity to go to the beach, but if you are gay you might prefer: Bellevue Strand, Tisvildeleje Strand in North Zealand or the new and very designer hip Amager Beach. If time is running short you may actually go for a swim in the middle of Copenhagen - either at Islands Brygge or by the shopping centre Fisketorvet.

Amager Beach

Amager Beach is recently constructed, with a long sandy beach, a shallow lagoon, a special lane for swimmers and rowers and a more wild section. If you prefer to avoid sand, go to Helgoland at the northern end of Amager Beach.

The easiest way to get to Amager Beach from the centre of Copenhagen is by Metro. The Metro airport line ("Lufthavnen") runs along the beach and has stops at the northern end (Øresund), midway (Amager Strand) and the southern end (Femøren).

Bellevue Beach

One of Copenhagen’s best gay beaches, only a very short train ride from the city centre: Take the fastest train, the Øresund train to Klampenborg Station. The S-train also stops at Klampenborg Station. When leaving the station you will soon see the water to the east. The northern end of the beach is a combined nude and gay beach, and very popular during the summer.

Ishøj Beach

Beach park south of Copenhagen with some gay action. Take the S-train to Ishøj Station and walk to the beach between Pilestien/Pilehuset and Lyngstien/Lynghuset. You may also choose to take the bus to the museum Arken, and from there walk southwest along the beach.

Tisvildeleje

Tisvildeleje Strand is 60 kilometres from Copenhagen, a beautiful and fairly secluded beach with clear water, picturesque dunes and action in the dunes and pines. Take the S-train to Hillerød Station and change to the local train to Tisvildeleje Station. From the station, walk down the hill towards the beach. After the beach parking lot, follow the coastline for about half an hour until you see fewer straight families and more gay men.
